First… First things first, ordering my day, keeping the Main Thing the main thing starts with being in the Word of God for me. My heart, mind, and soul need that first to be settled and ready to interact with others throughout the day. When it is not my first, my day slowly, little by little gets off track. Looking back at the day I wonder how I got where I am, but then I am reminded that I did not start with first things first. I claimed to be too busy, or got distracted.
First things first, helps me make better decisions. It helps me remember who I am, and whose image everyone is made in. It reminds me whom I serve, and who is carrying all this life in His hands. It reminds me of the deeper narrative so I am not as easily fooled by the loud narratives that bombard me. It helps me set my priorities and reminds me I am not in charge.
It reminds me that I am invited into an older, deeper story that is not trapped and forced by time and circumstances. It does not guarantee a smooth day, but it does help my perspective and focus to start right, and gives me a place to fall back on when things go awry.
* I am joining Five Minute Fridays in a 31 day Writing Challenge. Each day I will be writing on a different word prompt for at least 5 minutes for the month of October.
