Darkness (FMF Link Up)

Darkness… I expected darkness. It was my middle of the night bathroom run, but the world was lit up by the light of the full moon so low and close. It was still there in the wee hours as I drove to school. The beauty overwhelmed and blessed me.

It reminded me of Isaiah’s declaration, “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.” (9:2) The people saw a light they were not looking for. They had forgotten to watch for the signs, but the light of the world still came in the midst of their darkness. The weary world rejoiced.

Sometimes the darkness seems to overtake the light, but that will never be. Christ is the light of the world. He is victorious, and His light is spreading and reaching all parts of the weary, dark world. John tells us in eternity, “there will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the LORD God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.” Revelation 22:5 There will be no more darkness. Light emanating from our God can never be snuffed.

  1. They say in Heaven, there’s no night,
and for me that is a bummer,
    for I truly take delight
in the constellations of high summer.
And if there is no winter chill
    for me to rely on,
does that mean, over yonder hill
    shall never rise Orion?
    Is there no equator there
(and if not, such a loss!)
that I may pass on wind so fair
    to raise the Southern Cross?
Please tell me, friend, is there hope
that God holds sky and telescope?
