Out my Window: The moon has been breathtaking. It is full and low even into the morning. Love it so much! The rain has switched over to big fluffy.
Enjoying: A full day with all my guys and no commitments! Lounging around and catching up on things. Christmas lights.
Listening to: I love A Charlie Brown Christmas Soundtrack (Vince Guaraldi). Listened through a few times. Handel’s Messiah first part. I went to my first performance of the first section of Handel’s Messiah with friends. I enjoyed it very much. The Holy Post Podcast https://www.holypost.com/holy-post-podcast.
Finished Gay Girl, Good God by Jackie Hill Perry. This book is a great listen. I highly recommend for so many reasons. The sub title is “who I used to be and who God always has been”. It is such a great teaching on identity before and after the Holy Spirit, how we pursue, who God is and who we are, what He has for us. It is read well. I am glad I chose to listen. Jackie does a marvelous creative job reading it and the writing is deep theology. She gave me much to think about.
Reading: By my bed: Unhurried Leader: The Lasting Fruit of Daily Influence by Alan Fadling, this is set a side for now, due to Advent. I now have Watch for the Light: Readings for Advent and Christmas compiled by Plough Publishing by my bed and The Greatest Gift by Ann Voskamp and Advent and Christmas, Wisdom from G.K. Chesterton laying around to pick up and read in free moments.
My carry around book has been: The Heart of Recovery: How Compassion and Community Offer Hope in the Wake of Addiction by Deborah and David Beddoe My review can be found here. It is definitely worth reading. https://inkblotlife.com/2019/12/09/the-heart-of-recovery-a-book-review/ Not sure where I am heading. I am saving the book When Air Becomes Breath that my brother sent me that I know I will want to sit and read through. So saving it for Christmas Break.
I am on a book launch team. I was given a three chapter peek at She Laughs: Choosing Faith over Fear by Carolanne Miljavac. Review coming, along with some promotions on social media. Definitely a simple read. Carolanne tells stories, some very funny that she weaves a truth through to encourage.
Pondering: Discipleship… Context: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matt 28:19-20 I am wanting to organize an opportunity for people at my church to participate in either a mentoring relationship, or discipleship group, not sure what it looks like. Someone gave me input of not wanting one person to be the expert per se, teaching the people. I am thinking that some of it is semantics. Someone needs to lead and facilitate, but there is a need, I think, in the church for someone further along in their Christian walk to invite a few people to walk with them to grow and learn. I am pondering what biblical discipleship is, and what it looks like. How do we do life together while at the same time teaching another without it becoming a hierarchy? Is it an American pride issue? Is it just personalities? heart? Wondering if going through a curriculum is even discipleship? I am thinking of Deuteronomy 6:6-9 “These words I am commanding you today are to be upon your hearts. And you shall teach them diligently to your children and speak of them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as reminders on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates.” It is part of life. Living and know the commandments, speaking, teaching, and showing is part of the Jewish concept, and Jesus came and lived that out as He made disciples, but what does that look like in my context now. People are very detached and it is hard to even get them in the Word of God, much less invite people to do life with them to learn or to teach. So thinking about what this looks like for this church and the Church at large in this day and age.
Learning: Learning about myself, that I do not like book launching a book I have not fully read. I have enjoyed the first few chapters of my current book, but not sure where it will go, and who the full audience will be. So I learned that for the future I will probably only participate when the full book is available to read. I was wondering why I was having trouble fully blitzing my social media with it. It is a fun read with great encouragement, but I feel like I need more before I can all out recommend it. So this is good to know. The only other book launch that was only a portion was a cookbook which is obviously a different genre and works for just reading samples of it.
Home: Not a lot to report… Trying not to hyperventilate over Christmas being in 10 days.
Fitness and Mental Health: Fitness is back to crickets, which I know is not good. Mental Health: listening to podcasts and audiobooks has been beneficial for me. Christmas lights make me happy. Candles burning.
Giving Thanks: Oldest home for the weekend. A low key weekend. My boys spending some time together. Lunch with one friend and dinner with another this week. Airborne… helps me feel like I am doing something towards fighting germs I am around at school. My husband getting to share with teens again and the love he has for them. Opportunity to attend Handel’s Messiah. It has been on my bucket list.
