Before… The word of the LORD came to me, saying: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I set you apart and appointed you a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5
For He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless in His presence. In love He predestined us for adoption as His sons through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the Beloved One. Ephesians 1:4-5
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance (before) for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
Before I existed here on earth, God knew me and had a plan and purpose. That thought is mind blowing. The God who spoke the universe into existence and order, knew me, and saw me, before. Before Genesis, I was known. When I feel aimless or forgotten, to think on the fact the God has good works ordained, prepared, planned for me to do before time changes those moments into seeking the God who has the plans and purposes. He says if anyone lacks wisdom he should ask and God will give generously to those who believe.
Before… While I was still a sinner, before I was in right relationship, before I had repented for my sins or could even identify my sin, Christ died for me. Before, because he saw me and loved me. He wanted me back before I could even know that was what I needed or wanted. It is overwhelming to think that God cared enough to die for me, for each of us before and even though He saw and knew all that journey would entail. Not just a plan to save us, but also to give us a purpose and a hope before we knew we needed it.
Praise God who is the giver of all good gifts, who is love, whose mercies are new every morning. Great is His faithfulness.

I hope this is OK; you really touched my heart, and made me think.
There’s something I don’t understand,
and maybe you might offer aid;
God said that by His mighty hand
I was formed and in His image made,
and He knew me ‘fore I was born,
knew my name within the womb,
so how can unborn kids be torn,
and placed into a dustbin tomb
without it being called by name
(what a most peculiar modern time)
that would make it just the same
as Cain’s fell and ghastly crime?
Can someone speak a cogent reason
to this dreadful killing season?

Powerful words. Oh the heart of God broken over our selfishness and ignorance. May we stand in the gap for those with no voice and no name spoken over them here on earth. And for their parents who can see no other way.
