Throwback Thursday… sometimes I focus on a thought for a short time and then move on too quickly. I am realizing how often I need to come back to them and give them more attention. As I am usually late to the party, I am now jumping on the old idea of throwback Thursday to revisit some of those ideas… Yesterday I went for a hike with a friend and came across a waterfall. The little gorge was empty except us, and there was something holy feeling about the moment. My friend who does not come from any sort of religious background felt it too. She asked if there was a prayer we could pray for this moment. I shared how these moments usually move me to sing the doxology. I spared her my singing, but shared the words as a prayer from our hearts as we joined all creation declaring God’s glory.
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
I am thankful my friend was slowing down to sense the holy and calling me back to be present and allow it to overwhelm me to give praise with all of creation.
This week I am spending time with two views I love, seeing my family together, and the ocean. Both in one space, makes my heart sing. I also love the mountains and lakes. I grew up heading into the Adirondacks every summer, and lived down the road from Lake Ontario. Nature, especially when it involves water, connects with me. I can feel the stress leave as I listen, and watch water. It has been my happy place since my teen years.
The ocean has been an acquired love. When we first started taking trips to the shore I was antsy and uneasy, but now I need that time. It teaches me how to be still. I love the rhythm of the waves. I wake up early and watch the sunrise, and every time it takes my breath away. It brings forth the doxology from deep in my soul and has…
