Enough Manna for Today

Enough Manna for today,  it is all over the story of the Israelites’ journey through the wilderness. God is faithful. God provides. There is always enough for today. There is no need to grab more. There is no need to worry about other things. Even Jesus reminded us to only ask for our daily bread, our daily manna. But like the Israelites we reach, and take more than is ours, or complain about the next item on the list, water was next for the Israelites even though everyday they found food miraculously provided by a faithful God.

When I am at the store these days, I have to remind myself that I have enough. There is something about seeing shelves much emptier than usual that drives that scarcity mindset. And then when an item reappears, I have to fight the feeling that I need to stock up while it is available. Early on I did it with bananas before I had identified what was going on in my mind and heart. Too many bananas leads to too much banana bread. Although there are times where stocking up is wise, now is not necessary. I have all that I need.

Living mindful of that pacifies the feelings of uncertainty and brings me back to God’s faithfulness. But like the Israelites it is something I need to fight against. God’s remedy is to remember. He tells the Israelites, and tells us to remember all the ways He has been faithful in the past. Remembering God’s faithfulnbess in the past strengthens our resolve to trust His faithfulness in the present, and in the future. Remember, remember, remember… there is enough manna for today because God is more than enough for today.
